I initially created my own blog software in Zope. I’ve been a long time fan of Wordpress but now it’s starting to creak under the strain of… I want to do a re-design but because of all the tweaks I’ve done, I can’t just slap a new theme in and feel all sparkley and wonderful. There [...]

Blogs amplify individual voices. Unlike mailing lists, they don’t get lost in the hubbub. Wikis are different - they blur authorship, and drive towards a consensual style. Blogs’ temporal flow creates an affordance for conversation that is diluted and washed away in Wikis. Via: Epeus’ epigone: Social Software again If course, Kevin is right (as usual) but [...]

A totally useless guide of how to reclaim a bit of privacy Seven ways to drop off the grid,  totally lacking in any practical advice whatsoever. It says… There is sophisticated software that deletes all traces of your activities from your computer … Oh good. So what is it? How easy is it to use? Is there [...]

After months of never quite making it, I managed to get myself over to Leeds and to OpenCoffee. It’s a beautiful space and an interesting mix of people, self-consciously slightly less geeky than GeekUp, although there were a few familiar and cheeky geeky faces. I met a guy doing web-based audio for online discussions and a [...]

Another seducingly tempting web app, Lovely Charts, not just flow charts. Flowcharts are at the core of the Lovely Charts application. Using Lovely Charts, you’ll be able to represent even the most complex process within minutes, taking advantages of Lovely Charts’s innovative workflow. And they will look good, too.

I’m currently working on re-designing quite a large web site. The site owners want to “bring it up to date”, improve on lessons learned and give some areas currently buried a bit more punch or prominence. So what is up to date when it’s at home? There is an emerging fashion (or cliche depending how you look [...]

Reiss really is a coffee nut. I’m not sure if I’m grateful to him for showing me the world of truly wonderful coffee because now I find it impossible to drink brown crap. He’s been urging me to buy a burr grinder which doesn’t burn the coffee like my little electric one does… but this is [...]

Mashable was a great source of Web2.0 news and nonsense, but their adverts in the RSS feeds really, really annoy me so I’m unsubscribing. Anyone else annoyed they same way, it just spoils the whole RSS experience? Any other feeds worth a look?

Last night I played 5-a-side football for the first time in 3 years. I love 5-a-side it has all the poetic beauty or a “real” game without the sliding tackles, 100 yard dashes, injuries, rain and mud. I have, more than once, been compared to Eric Cantona, mainly for being fat with a big nose and [...]

Eland Cables - Exceptional Cable People I’ve enjoyed worked with Eland for quite a while now. They made it into the Times’ Top 100 Places to Work don’t ya know but more importantly, in meeting you get a nice coffee (or herbal drink) and an apple to eat, which I believe cancels out any negative effects [...]

Although I’ve always been more than involved in technology and some would call me a geek, I like old technology. I am always disappointed by old technology though because there’s always something missing, like Bluetooth or an internet port. A couple of years ago I found a palm-top thingy, no bigger than an EEE running [...]
